Accountants in Industry
Mercia is one of the UK’s largest providers of training and support services to the accountancy profession. We have provided accountancy practices with effective solutions for over 20 years and have established an enviable reputation for providing the highest standard of professional training. With this expertise we feel we are in the best possible position to introduce a programme of courses for accountants in industry addressing your CPD requirements as well as topical and specialist areas.
Compulsory CPD – what does it all mean?
Accountants have always been required to continually maintain their knowledge and skills. However there have been considerable changes to the continuing professional development (CPD) guidelines. From 1 January 2006 ICAI, ICPA, CIMA, ICAEW, CIPFA, ACCA, ICAS and AAT were required to introduce CPD for all professionals. This is monitored on an annual basis with records having to be retained and also available for inspection.
All professional institutes broadly follow one of two different approaches, either completing a set number of hours each year or planning the development they need, how they are going to achieve it and the proposed benefit that they will receive. In order to get the most from your CPD training, consider what your job currently involves and what areas of knowledge will be needed in the future. Professional development includes not only technical knowledge, but also IT, personal and management skills.
As you are no doubt aware, the new CPD rules apply to all members, whether in practice, industry or commerce. Whilst our courses are predominantly aimed at those working in practice, a number of accountants from industry do attend and find them very useful.
If your accountant is a member of a Mercia Training Group you can attend courses through their membership at reduced rates. Please contact Michelle Hammond or Nicola Hurley to find out more.
